Surya shawl

This shawl uses the sunspots stitch from Barbara Walker’s 3rd Treasury. To invoke the idea of the sun, I named the shawl Surya who is the main sun god in the Hindu religion.

Skill Level: Advanced Intermediate

Sizes: Shawlette and Shawl versions.

Finished Measurements: Shawl – 66”x32”; Shawlette – 58”x27”

Gauge: 24 sts and 36 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Materials:

* Size 3.75mm (US 5) circular needles (at least 32”/80cm long)
* Crochet Hook (size G/4mm) for garter tab cast-on
* Scrap yarn
* Stitch markers (4)
* Tapestry needle

approx. 400 for the shawlette and 575 yards for the shawl in heavy lace or fingering weight yarn. Used in photos:
